2FA and Unique Password
Today Lifelock notified me that my identity information can be found on the dark web. The vendor in question suffered a data breach a few months ago. I was already aware of it and had already taken precautions.
Fortunately:
- The breached account is protected by a password that has long-since been changed. This account’s password also is REALLY LONG and is used nowhere else.
- The breached account is protected by 2-Factor Authentication
Of course the dark web data included my name and mailing address but that has been all over the dark web for years. (I’ve also given that vendor specific instructions that my 2FA information can be modified only in writing and must include a notarized copy of my photo ID)
I strongly advise everyone to take these same precautions.
